Zad Archery Mastery
Mastery magnifies a working stack. It does not fix neglected gear, empty ore, or an unmatched rune.
Mastery is one of the top-layer systems that sit above the skill tree. The September 1 launch recording reached Mastery after clearing the Level 17 portal. The Grandmaster achievement confirms the system as an official progression milestone. One visible option, Mastery of Momentum, could pull one randomly selected skill out of cooldown when a hit lands. That kind of effect is valuable only when several upgraded skills are already strong enough that another cast changes the fight.
If your skill tree still has dark nodes, your gathering tab is empty, or your shaped weapons lack matching runes, Mastery will not save that. Fix the foundation first.
What Mastery actually does
Mastery options sit above the skill tree, not inside the first node star. Each Mastery choice is a permanent upgrade that modifies how your existing skills behave. The launch build showed Mastery of Momentum as one option: when a hit lands, there is a chance one skill currently on cooldown fires again immediately.
The exact Mastery pool and costs are not published in a fixed table. The system unlocks as you push portal clears. Treat each visible Mastery as a question: does this amplify a skill that is already strong, or does it try to compensate for a skill that is not?
The audit before you buy
Before purchasing any Mastery, check every system that feeds it:
- Does the equipped bow or armor still belong to an outdated base? A new rare from the anvil beats a Mastery that假设 an old weapon.
- Are the chosen job skills ranked and firing during the portal window? Unranked skills do not benefit from Mastery that fires them more often.
- Are Mining powers allocated to skills that are actually unlocked? Ore spent on a locked skill row is ore that could have amplified a working node.
- Does every active shaped weapon have a relevant rune? The Shaping page explains why a lone weapon is half a system.
- Can the archer survive long enough for a cooldown reset or extra cast to matter? HP and regen are not optional if the archer dies during the cast window.
When Mastery of Momentum matters
If you have three or four ranked skills that all contribute to the portal window — Explosive Arrow, Sniper orb, a Summon, and a multi-shot — then an extra random cast from Momentum can extend the clean damage phase. The extra cast lands on whichever skill just came off cooldown, which means you want all of those skills ranked and active.
If you have two skills and one of them is still sitting at rank 1, Momentum is adding a rank-1 cast to a fight that needs rank 5. Upgrade the skill first.
Mastery and the achievement map
The Grandmaster achievement confirms Mastery as a named progression step. The achievement list provides a reliable milestone map even when exact costs change. The twelve Steam achievements currently expose: destroying a target, recruiting the Archer, unlocking Jobs, Crafting, Mining, opening a chest, unlocking Shaping, unlocking Mastery, obtaining a legendary bow or armor, unlocking Guardian Perks, defeating the King, and reaching Level 40.
Mastery unlocks when you clear the portal chain far enough. The exact gate is not printed as a fixed wave number in the UI. Watch for a new Mastery tab or section to appear on the skill tree panel.
How Mastery connects to the rest of the game
- Skill tree: Mastery nodes sit above and beyond the first node star. They are not inside the gold-buy graph.
- Jobs: Mastery interacts with job skills, not just tree nodes. Ranked job skills are candidates for a Momentum reset.
- Shaping: shaped weapons and runes are part of the late-game foundation. A strong Shaping setup makes every Mastery more effective.
- Guardian Perks: the Guardian Perks track and Mastery track are separate. Both appear in the late-game left-hand tabs.
Common Mastery mistakes
Buying Mastery as a fix. If your arrow damage is too low, buy tree damage. If your skills are not ranked, rank them. Mastery assumes a working stack.
Ignoring which skills Momentum resets. Momentum resets a random skill on hit. If your highest-impact skill is on a long cooldown and your low-impact skill is on a short one, the reset may fire the wrong cast. Read the Mastery text carefully.
Spreading Mastery points across multiple options instead of maxing one. One maxed Mastery is better than three partial ones. Pick the one that matches your current build and commit.
After Mastery
Mastery is not the final content. The September 4 Mega Update introduced a new Symbol system for linear progression on top of existing systems. Guardian Perks and the King fight are still ahead of Mastery in the achievement chain. Use the updates page to track when new systems arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I buy Mastery?
Only after you have a full working build: ranked skills, functional gear, shaped weapons with runes, and ore allocated to unlocked powers. Mastery amplifies a working stack, not a broken one.
What does the Grandmaster achievement mean?
Grandmaster confirms you unlocked Mastery as an official progression milestone. It is one of twelve Steam achievements in the 1.0 launch build.
Is Mastery the last system in Zad Archery?
No. The September 4 Mega Update introduced a new Symbol system. Guardian Perks and the King are still progression milestones after Mastery. Check updates for new content.
